Our Story

Hi! I’m Kya. I run the Small World Pets website. You might be wondering why I, a dog, run a business. Here is the story of how Small World Pets started:

I was born a stray in Alabama. My birth mom disappeared right after she had me and sadly, I was also separated from my brothers and sisters. Being alone was really scary, but I was homeless for only a month before I was found by a rescue crew.

I was taken to the Atlanta Humane Society in Georgia. There were other dogs like me there. I thought, “Maybe my family is here too!” But weeks went by and I never found them. Everyday I sat on the floor in my tiny, cold room and wondered where they were and if they missed me. I sure missed them.

After a while I started to get used to life at the shelter. Every day after my potty break and breakfast, I was moved into a little square gate. There were lots of other dogs in little square gates like me, but we were all separated. Even though I was alone, this was my favorite part of the day because the shelter would let people in to say hi to us! I noticed that, if a person liked you, they would pick you up and sometimes take you outside! The shelter called this “adoption.” It’s when a new family meets you and loves you so much that they want to take you home and make you a part of their family. I wanted to be adopted so bad. But no one picked me up…

It was August 16th in the afternoon. I had already seen several families that day and no one picked me up. But then a nice lady walked up to my gate and stared at me for a long time. I started to jump up and down, begging her with all my might to pick me up! Then, like magic, she did! She never put me back down into my little gate. I stayed in her arms the whole drive to my new home. She is my mom now - and I love her so much.

It’s been three years since I was adopted and I have an awesome life! My family takes me on walks and adventures in the mountains. I go swimming in the lake and chase ducks. I have my very own toy box (I never had toys before!). And my dad gives me the best scratchies! I have no complaints. But, not a day goes by that I don’t think about my past life at the shelter. Not every dog is as lucky as me and gets adopted. Instead they stay at the shelter all alone with no mountains to climb, no lakes to chase ducks in, and no toy box. That makes me sad. I thought, I can’t bring the mountains or the lake to the shelter but I can bring toys!

So, Small World Pets was born!

Thank you so much for shopping with us. It makes me happy to give back and cheer up those who have yet to find their forever home! If you like Small World Pets, please share our story with your friends and family and help us donate toys to every shelter pet in America!

With love and licks,

Kya
